WHAT IS EXTRACORPOREAL SHOCKWAVE THERAPY?
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy, or ESWT is a non-surgical approach to pain relief that is used regularly to relieve the symptoms of musculoskeletal pain. The therapy works by targeting shock waves directly to the area that is experiencing pain.
This non-invasive procedure typically lasts less than 20 minutes. Shockwave therapy works by emitting high energy pulses. These pulses of acoustic energy are focused on the target tissues by the handpiece / applicator of the shockwave therapy machine and are believed to cause localized microtrauma that stimulates the bodies natural healing processes.
The shock waves are believed to stimulate angiogenesis / neovascularization (new blood vessels) and neurogenesis (new nerve cells). The microtrauma increases local circulation and enhances breakdown of calcifications (calcium build-up).

MEET YOUR PROVIDER
Jan Klofter, MPT,CSCS, has been practicing clinical orthopedic physical therapy for over 20 years. One of his specialties include chronic soft tissue injuries, commonly known as strains or sprains, but also by their medical terms tendinitis, tendinosis, and tenosynovitis.
While treating patients Jan discovered that some were getting a new treatment for musculoskeletal conditions known as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), alongside their physical therapy. Upon seeing their rapid improvement, Jan researched the tools and techniques and began incorporating them into his treatment practices.
ESWT is not meant to replace your rehabilitation, but is instead another tool to aid in treating frustrating chronic conditions.

CONCIERGE PHYSICAL THERAPY
Physical therapy is an important component on your road to recovery. ESWT can help you towards your goals but as stated is not meant to replace your rehabilitation. If you are currently participating in a physical therapy program, great! Stick with it!. If you are missing this component then consider combining physical therapy with ESWT.
I offer concierge physical therapy with one on one visits and availability through text or email when needed. I have chosen to be out of network as to have full autonomy over patient care and not be constrained by insurance protocols and limitations. You will receive a statement for your physical therapy visit that you can submit for reimbursement by your insurance. If you’ve decided to use ESWT as a component of your treatment and are not active in therapy you may want to consider it.
It just makes sense financially. Shockwave therapy rate is $98 per treatment. Concierge physical therapy is $200 per visit. As stated ESWT is not covered by insurance but of course physical therapy is. Estimated reimbursement for physical therapy is on average $75. So for only $125 you get the great benefit of physical therapy by an expert orthopedic physical therapist with 22 years of experience combined with the benefit of shockwave therapy. Of course if you have any questions please submit your contact information and I can reach out to you.
